Volkow, M.D., is Director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). A pioneer in brain imaging, Dr. Volkow revealed addiction as a brain disorder through her work, showing how dopamine system changes impair reward and self-control. Her research also advanced understanding of obesity, ADHD, and aging. Born in Mexico, Volkow earned her M.D. from the National University of Mexico and trained at NYU. She is the director of the world’s largest funder of research on drug use and addiction, author of nearly 1,000 publications, member of the National Academy of Medicine, and recipient of numerous international awards.</p>

<p>Presented by the Osher Center for Integrative Health at UVM as part of the Laura Mann Integrative Healthcare Lecture Series, this special event is hosted during Psychiatry Grand Grounds, in conjunction with The Robert D. Larner, M.D., College of Medicine. </p>
