Interested in studying sustainable development, biodiversity, and real-world challenges, all while living in a neo-tropical environment and earning 18 UVM credits covering 3 Gen Ed requirements? Join UVM's Costa Rica Semester Abroad Program. Now interviewing for Spring 2026 waitlist, Fall 2026 and Spring 2027

The Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources study abroad experience in Costa Rica is the only faculty-led semester abroad program at UVM! Running for over 25 years in Costa Rica, this program integrates academic content across the biological and social sciences with the real-world challenges and opportunities faced by a rapidly developing Latin American country with unparalleled biodiversity.

As part of an integrative capstone experience, students engage in a service-learning component in which they apply the knowledge they've gained to a community-identified sustainable development project on the Osa Peninsula.
