Join this information- and farmer-focused discussion about ways to be more climate smart with farm operations. Sam Dixon from Shelburne Farms will talk about ways they are working towards their net-zero goal including silvopasture, riparian buffers, and introducing biochar onto their fields.

Agenda

  • Meet at the dairy barns where Sam will give an overview of their operation and rotational grazing practices.
  • Walk to the new silvopasture planting to discuss the process of planting trees in pasture and different ways to implement silvopasture (depending on your farm goals).
  • Explore a pasture or two with established trees for cows to use as shade and see riparian buffers planted by the lake.
  • Walk back to the barn to discuss their biochar project (time permitting).

Snacks, refreshments, and boot covers will be provided. This is a free program.
