We’re excited to invite you to a special performance of The Blues of Achilles by Joe Goodkin on April 30 at 7:00 PM in the Livak Ballroom, Davis Center.

This unique program features 17 original songs for guitar and voice that retell Homer’s Iliad in an engaging, accessible way for modern audiences, while drawing on the ancient tradition of oral epic performance. It’s a rare opportunity to experience classical literature brought to life through music and storytelling.

Joe Goodkin, a Chicago-based musician with a background in Classics (UW–Madison), has performed his musical retellings of the Iliad and Odyssey more than 500 times across the U.S., Canada, and Europe. His work bridges ancient texts and contemporary performance in a way that’s both thoughtful and entertaining.

Whether you’re deeply immersed in Greek epic or just curious to see a new take on a familiar story, this event is well worth attending.
