Dr. Alpana Thorat is a Principal Scientist in the Crystallization Technologies Laboratory (CTL) within Pfizer's Chemical Research & Development (CRD) division, based in Croton, Connecticut. She earned her PhD in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (India).
Following her doctoral studies, she pursued postdoctoral research in the United States, contributing to diverse areas including: 1). Amorphous solid dispersions for food products at Purdue University under Prof. Lynne Taylor, 2). Lyophilization of protein-based formulations at the University of Minnesota with Prof. Raj Suryanarayanan, and 3). Continuous crystallization in plug flow reactors and spray drying of high-concentration protein formulations at MIT in Prof. Allan Myerson's group.
Earlier in her career, she also served as a Senior Research Chemist at Sai Life Sciences India Pvt. Ltd. (2008-2009). At Pfizer, Dr. Thorat's current work focuses on both batch and continuous crystallization, with an emphasis on developing automated workflows for crystallization process development. She leads various technology development projects within Pfizer and chairs PD2M as well as the Crystallization sessions in AIChE.
