In spring of 2023, our audience experienced something truly magical – Sona Jobarteh, the only female kora virtuoso to come from the West African griot dynasties. Her lineage carries a formidable reputation of renowned kora masters, and she is widely recognized for her skill as an instrumentalist, evocative singing voice, infectious melodies, and grace on stage. She has transformed the tradition of her instrument and introduced education reform in her native Gambia. When we heard she was touring again, we jumped at the chance to bring her back!
