Join us for a cup of coffee as Rae Taylor-Burns discusses her research.

We assess the strengths and weaknesses the protocol issuing carbon offset credits for restored wetlands in California and make recommendations for how to improve the protocol to better align with the state of wetland restoration in the state.

Rae's PhD used hydrodynamic models to assess how habitat conservation and restoration can reduce climate risk from flooding. Her postdoc is focused on policy and practice applications of this work, including carbon and resilience crediting frameworks and incorporating the risk reduction benefits of habitat into insurance pricing. She is involved in numerous collaborative interdisciplinary pursuits, involving groups including universities (UC Santa Cruz, UC Berkeley Carbon Trading Project), agencies (US Geological Survey), NGOs (The Nature Conservancy, Ocean Risk and Resilience Action ALliance), and consultancies (Silvestrum, Integral) and looks forward to collaboration opportunities at UVM.
