Join the Political Science Club on October 31 at 6 pm in Lafayette 207 for a conversation with Howard Dean on his political career and a discussion of the current state of politics.

Howard Dean is a prominent figure in the national political scene and a stalwart of Vermont politics. He is best known for his tenacious personality and willingness to stand up for what he believes in.

Howard Dean got his start in politics serving as the Representative for Chittenden 7-4 in the Vermont House of Representatives and as the Lieutenant Governor of Vermont. He is best known for being the longest-serving Governor of Vermont, during which he also served as the chairman of the National Governors Association. He then became the Democratic frontrunner for the Democratic nomination for President in the 2004 election. While he was ultimately unsuccessful, he pioneered Internet fundraising and garnered grassroots support. It was this strategy that led him to become the chairman of the Democratic National Committee and contributed to Barack Obama’s victory in 2008. Since his retirement, Howard Dean has continued to stay involved in politics, campaigning nationally for Democratic candidates and advocating for the interests of everyday Vermonters.
