OLLI AT UVM PRESENTS

Sinclair Lewis—the first American to win the Nobel Prize in literature—wrote It Can’t Happen Here in 1935 to imagine how fascism might show up in the United States. In this program, we will explore Lewis’s critical perspective on American culture and his depiction of a fictional authoritarian takeover. We will consider whether the political realities of our time might reflect the trends he portrayed. Held in Shelburne.  Suggested Reading: It Can't Happen Here by Sinclair Lewis (1935)
