Armchair Adventures: The Sky Islands of Southeastern Arizona ft. Maeve Kim
About this Event
OLLI AT UVM PRESENTS
In this online program, visit a truly unique part of the United States: the “sky islands” of southeastern Arizona, where you can go through a half dozen distinct ecozones in a half-hour drive, from hot desert to peaks with snow. Learn about places to stay in the Santa Rita Mountains, the Huachucas, the Chiracahuas, and in the desert near Tucson. Hear a bit of local history and geography, and see beautiful hiking and walking trails as well as destinations where you can just kick back and relax. This part of Arizona is rich in wildlife, with as many as four hundred species of birds – many that can’t be found elsewhere in the country. Suggested Reading: The Southern Arizona Nature Almanac, by Roseann and Jonathan Hanson, has a wealth of information that's good for amateur naturalists, scientists, and people who just love beautiful nature.
