"Nicopolis seen by the Turks, the Turks seen by the Chroniclers: Rethinking the Image of the Enemy"
Charles-Louis Morand Métivier, French
The Crusade of Nicopolis (1396) was a tremendous defeat for French and European crusaders, who were massacred by the troops of Sultan Bayazid II. In this presentation, Dr. Morand Métivier will focus on the representation of the battle in Ottoman and Christian sources. He will also analyze how this battle troubles, and even rearranges, the traditional vision of the other religion in both camps.
Space is limited and reserved for faculty. Lunch will be provided. RSVP is required. Please follow the link below to RSVP. Questions? Humanities.Center@uvm.edu
