About Chef Cara Tobin
Chef Caraās culinary journey began at 17 in a small New Hampshire pizza shop, eventually guiding her to the West Coast where she honed her craft and graduated valedictorian from her culinary program in Monterey, CA. Her early career included positions at renowned establishments such as Cetrella, The Plumpjack CafĆ©, and the Dream Inn Hotel.
A move to Boston led Cara to the acclaimed kitchen atĀ Oleana, where she became Chef de Cuisine, earning recognition as a Rising Star Chef in 2015. In 2016, she relocated to Vermont and soon openedĀ Honey Road, followed byĀ The Grey Jay, both celebrated for vibrant Eastern Mediterranean cuisine and deep community engagement.
Chef Cara has earned multipleĀ James Beard AwardĀ semifinalist honors and, in 2024, became a finalist for Best Chef: Northeast. In 2025, she and her business partner Allison Gibson are finalists forĀ Outstanding Restauranteur. Her work reflects a commitment not only to exceptional food, but to supporting local arts, LGBTQ+ rights, childhood development, animal welfare, and local food systems across Vermont.
