Workshop with Professor Manuela Wagner of the University of Conneticut, Hosted by the School of World Languages & Cultures and the Department of Education

In this workshop, we explore how interdisciplinary intercultural citizenship can be applied directly to participants’ own curricula through the analysis of sample activities, lessons, and units that intentionally integrate the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed for criticality, intercultural dialogue, and real-world problem solving. Drawing on frameworks of intercultural communicative competence, intercultural citizenship, and interdisciplinary intercultural citizenship, as well as approaches involving virtual reality, the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals, intellectual humility, and critical thinking, participants identify adaptable practices and outline concrete steps for implementation in their own teaching. The workshop concludes with shared insights on curricular planning, collaboration, and sustainable program development.
