A training for UVM “first responders” (i.e. professional staff most likely to receive a disclosure of sexual violence from a student) that:

1) reviews skillsets for best practice focused on meeting student urgent needs

2) encourages effective referral skills to other offices when appropriate.

Learning Objectives:

• Participants will recall at least 3 communication skills to utilize when responding to a student who discloses an experience with sexual violence.
• Participants will be able to demonstrate the ability to identify appropriate referral process for students who might be best served connecting to services outside of the professional’s expertise and scope.
• Participants will be able to identify at least one immediate need presented by the student case scenario presented during the presentation.
