In these weekly talks, scholars and leaders exchange ("xChange") new research and solutions for people and planet.

This week, Dror Etzion, professor and Steven Grossman Endowed Chair in Sustainable Business at the Grossman School of Business, will provide a quick overview of management research as an academic discipline. Then, I will focus on a managerial approach called robust action, which I will argue is suitable for addressing the grand sustainability challenges of our time.  In robust action, leaders eschew fraught ideological debates and refrain from enunciating a vision or striving for consensus.  Rather, they create architectures of broad participation, embrace ambiguity, and pursue “small wins”, thereby creating momentum for future success.
