Dancing Uphill is the UVM Dance Program’s annual performance, featuring student performers and choreography by guest artists, faculty, and students. Reflecting the play, rigor, and collaborative spirit of creative research in the program, the evening is part of the School of the Arts theme Hidden Figures and honors artists and movement in all their complexity, identity, and power. This year’s program includes work by guest artists Jenna Riegel (Amherst College, MA) and Miguel Alejandro Castillo Le Maitre (NYC/Venezuela), both Queer artists pushing the boundaries of what dance can do; student choreographers Noah Saltzman (she/her), November Staples (he/him), and Maddy Grant; and UVM Dance faculty Julian Barnett, Paul Besaw, and Avi Waring. The evening is directed by Julian Barnett.
