About this Event
48 University Pl, Burlington, VT 05405
Comics have the potential to present complex issues and systems with clarity and style, and are an ideal medium to inform, educate, and to reach wider audiences. Join UVM Comics-Based Research Lab in this hands-on workshop with distinguished comics creator and educator Glynnis Fawkes as she shows how she transformed Eric Cline’s book 1177 BC, The Year Civilization Collapsed into comic form. She will show examples of her process adapting text into the language of comics, from thumbnail drawings to final pages. She will discuss elements of visual storytelling, such as dramatizations, maps, data visualization, and more. Then she will guide participants in a short drawing workshop to create a comic based on their research and/or field experience. No drawing skills are required! All are welcome.
