In this presentation hosted by the Department of Psychological Science, Dr. Oswaldo Moreno explores the critical role of Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) in shaping the well-being of racial/ethnic diverse communities. The presentation illuminates various dimensions of SDOH—including socioeconomic status, education, healthcare access, and neighborhood environment—and their profound impact on both physical and mental health outcomes. Participants will gain an understanding of how these constructs intersect with cultural, historical, and systemic factors, contributing to health disparities/inequalities experienced by marginalized groups. By examining current research, this presentation highlights the importance of addressing SDOH in health promotion, disease prevention, and recovery strategies. Attendees will be equipped with knowledge of research approaches and effective interventions that can mitigate adverse social conditions and improve health equity. Through collaborative efforts, scholars and providers can create more inclusive health environments that recognize and address the unique challenges racial/ethnic communities face.
