Alison Bechdel’s work includes the pioneering comic strip Dykes to Watch Out For (1983-2008), and the graphic memoirs Fun Home, Are You My Mother? and The Secret to Superhuman Strength. Fun Home was adapted into a musical in 2015 that received five Tony Awards. Bechdel is the recipient of Guggenheim and MacArthur Fellowships, and served as Vermont’s third Cartoonist Laureate from 2017 to 2020. She is a Professor in the Practice at Yale University. Her most recent book, Spent: A Comic Novel, was named a “Favorite Hidden Gem Book” of 2025 by the New York Times Book Review.
